Cable & Wireless (Cayman) either made a profit of $34.4 million in 1997/98 or earned total revenue of $115 million from locally-based residents and businesses.
That conclusion can be drawn from the fact that the Cayman Islands government recently declared that it received $6,881,212 as a licensing fee from Cable & Wireless and that, under the agreement between the two parties, the government annually receives from the telecommunications carrier the greater of six per cent of total revenue or 20 per cent of net income.
