David Marchant

Founder, Owner & Editor

Investigative financial journalist David Marchant owns and operates Florida-domiciled OffshoreAlert, a news, documents, and conference-organizing company that specializes in financial intelligence and investigations, with an emphasis on high-value, cross-border finance conducted in high-confidentiality offshore and onshore jurisdictions.

Since it was launched in 1997, OffshoreAlert has exposed more than 175 investment frauds and money laundering schemes while they were in progress, contributing to their early collapse, and helped law enforcement, regulators, and asset recovery specialists hold those responsible accountable for their actions.

Fraudsters have sued Marchant and OffshoreAlert for defamation in Canada, Cayman Islands, England, Grenada, Panama, and the United States, with several plaintiffs subsequently going to prison, including one for 17 years.

OffshoreAlert is regularly referenced in news articles, books, government reports, TV programs, and movie documentaries about serious financial crime.

Rui Pinto & William Bourdon Present: The 'Football Leaks' Financial Scandals That Rocked European Soccer

Poniente I & II

In this session, Portuguese activist and whistleblower Rui Pinto and his French attorney, William Bourdon, will discuss Pinto's creation of the 'Football Leaks' website in 2015 to expose "the principal protagonists in the dishonest football industry" and Pinto's subsequent arrest and criminal prosecution.

The site shone light on the murky and secretive world of football finance by revealing player contracts, financial documents, confidential emails, and other information that triggered criminal tax fraud prosecutions against several top players, including Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo; rules breach charges against English football club Manchester City, and even led to the reopening of a sexual assault investigation into Cristiano Ronaldo in the United States.

Offshore Intelligence & Investigations

Virtual

In this session, OffshoreAlert founder and editor David Marchant will look at some key developments and issues in major offshore financial centers in the areas of investigations and transparency. He will, among other things, explain why the appearance of certain jurisdictions in the complex corporate web of failed crypto group FTX should have been a deal-breaking red flag to prospective clients or investors, discuss the embrace of the fraud-ridden crypto industry, and identify one major offshore jurisdiction whose court took more than three years to produce a publicly-available court filing and expose flaws in the same jurisdiction's on-line corporate registry system.

Bitfinex’ed: A Crypto Whistleblower Speaks

Virtual

In this session, OffshoreAlert's editor, David Marchant, will interview a programmer and former crypto fan turned whistleblower who uses the pseudonym 'Bitfinex’ed' on social media about why the whistleblower sees nothing but red flags in the industry.
