$23 m judgment entered in Sentinel Insurance suit

A lawsuit in which the failed Bermuda-based Sentinel Insurance group had two corporate defendants has concluded in the United States with the entry of a $23 million judgment in favor of the plaintiff.The judgment was entered on March 10, 2004 at the U. S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts in favor of plaintiff MicroFinancial Inc., of Massachusetts, against Premier Holidays International Inc., of Atlanta, Georgia, and its president Daniel DelPiano.

Sentinel investigators slam Bott and Associates

Insurance management firm Bott and Associates has been strongly criticized by Bermuda's Registrar of Companies for its lack of help with an investigation into Sentinel Insurance Company.In an affidavit filed at a U. S. Bankruptcy Court, Jeremy Cox stated that Sentinel's Bermuda representative had shown "a disturbing lack of co-operation" with an inquiry into what appears to have been a massive fraud.

Bermuda regulators act against Sentinel Insurance

Bermuda's Registrar of Companies has exercised its statutory powers to order an inspection of Sentinel Insurance Company Ltd., which is represented on the island by Bott and Associates.The inspection began after a successful application to the Bermuda Supreme Court on December 11, 2000 under Section 30 of The Insurance Act 1978 and Section 132 of The Companies Act 1981.
